Auditions for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest at SSP

Second Street Players is announcing auditions for its 2025 season opener, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, by Dale Wasserman based on the novel by Ken Kesey.

Director Marge Ventura will hold open auditions from 6:00p to 8:00p, Monday and Tuesday, December 2 and 3, 2024, at the Riverfront Theater, 2 S. Walnut St., Milford. Callbacks if needed will be held at 6:00p, Thursday, December 5, 2024, also at the Riverfront Theater.

The show is performed by a cast of 12 men and 4 women. Auditions shall consist of a cold reading from the script.

THE STORY:  After being convicted of a petty crime, a charming, rebellious rogue named McMurphy contrives to serve his sentence in a mental institution rather than in a prison. This, he soon learns, is a mistake. He immediately clashes with the authoritarian head nurse, Nurse Ratched. Despite Ratched's strict reign, McMurphy attempts to do away with the restrictive routines and lead patients out of their insecurities. He ultimately stages a revolt, bringing a small ray of hope to the other patients. But McMurphy's insubordination has its consequences.

Performance dates are Friday through Sunday, February 7, 8, 9 and 14, 15, 16, 2025. To be considered for casting, those auditioning must be available for all performances and during the two weeks prior to opening night.

Any questions may be emailed to the director, Marge Ventura at marge.ventura@gmail.com.

Winning the 2001 Tony and Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Revival of a Play, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is produced by special arrangement with Concord Theatricals (concordtheatricals.com).

Second Street Players values diversity and inclusion in casting, and in all other areas of production. The show is supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowments of the Arts.
